Dead Space is an amazing game that does an excellent job at creating a spooky and scary atmosphere.  Dead Space is what Resident Evil 5 should have been. Dead Space is very story driven, and is convincing and horrific. I purposely played this game at night, in the dark, with all the lights off, and with the music very loud. And i was scared half to death. Few game can thrill you like Dead Space.

Dead Space is played from an over the shoulder 3rd person point of view. You are a soldier sent out in response to a distress signal sent from a space station in deep space. The whole game takes place inside and outside the space station. But don’t think that the game is meticulous hallway crawling, you’ll be plotted against dozens of differing enemies in a variety of settings. And the boss battles feel pretty epic.

What makes the fighting system so unique, is the enemies that you’re up against. You’re not fighting any normal soldier infantry, this is some crazy stuff. I don’t want to spoil anything, just know that its not human. And since they are not human, they won’t respond like  other creatures. I had some real fun with this, and it felt like a new gameplay experience. The weaponry is very modern like. The game is set in the future, The guns are futuristic versions of like handguns, shotguns, and machine guns. Every gun has a normal fire, and an alternate fire and a blue laser scope. The combat never got old for me, until the end, it felt fresh and fun.

The atmosphere and setting is what really sets Dead Space apart. The musical score comes in and out as you approach an enemy, and it will put you on edge immediately. while playing, I would yell out loud “Why is the music so scary!!!”. It made my heart beat faster and faster. Oh boy the game was so scary. The voice acting is also done well. There is always a sense of panic and insanity in the air, and it comes through in full.

Dead Space came out for both consoles, Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. And it was also released on the PC. I beat the game on the Xbox 360, and it ran wonderfully. I never saw much difference on the other two systems. You should be able to play Dead Space on the PC if you have a good rig.

Dead Space came as a surprise to me, in that I hadn’t been anticipating its release. It was developed in house by EA, and EA usually just churns out yearly sports titles and need for speed games. Dead Space was a venture away from its norm. I’ve got to applaud the guys at EA for created one of the best games of 2008. And now with Dead Space 2 around the corner, I thought I would build up as much hype for it. Dead Space is a must play game, lets hope #2 is just as good. easy 5/5.
